We Salute Our Heroes ….

This day is never more poignant and meaningful than when our men and women are serving overseas in harm's way. Today, we pay tribute to the young men and women who defend the freedom we hold so dearly. Over 4,000 children lost one of their parents since September 11, 2011.…

My Commencement Address

I haven't been invited to give a Commencement Speech ... yet … but when they're ready, I've got it down to just 6 words.
Be yourself. Everyone else is taken. ~ Oscar Wilde
Question: What else would you tell graduates today?

Who wants to see some bad guys get their butt kicked?

Get ready for Fiction Fridays … because we’re going rogue!

We’re going rogue…. on Fiction Fridays!

I intend to roust your senses, pillage your serenity and stimulate your discovery of the good, the bad and the only fiction genre where a ranch breakfast is a steel metal jacket dipped in cordite.

We’re going to mix it up … on Fiction Fridays … and talk about the books which fill the Mystery-Thriller-Suspense genre.

They sire rabid fans and beget a rogue’s gallery of unaccountable tough guys, a few cerebral types and shameless sidekicks. That’s going to be part of Fiction Fridays … starting now!

Are you a fan of the Mystery-Thriller-Suspense genre?

Most of us who love this genre are passionate about our favorite characters.

We’re looking for great stories, new authors, undiscovered gems and the unexpected twists and turns that keep these books at the top of the best seller lists.

Productivity: The most comfortable ways to use your iPad … and more

I’ve been traveling more than ever lately, and wanted to share with you several products that really make a difference in how I use my iPad, in different environments, to consume the wide range of materials I read and watch. Keep reading for some other ideas, too.

The HoverBar from Twelve South is a simple device that attaches to a computer stand, e.g., to the base of an iMac … or to a different workstation … or to a tabletop, kitchen counter, bookshelf or another surface. It uses a padded clamp that is adjustable up to 1″ wide, and can be purchased for any iPad model.

My wife makes fun of mine, suggesting that it looks like a table in a senior citizen center, but it’s a very convenient, hands-free way to suspend your iPad for easy reading on a table that you can bring up to your favorite chair or sofa.

It works great for me and I wouldn’t be without it … honey!

But, when I’m traveling and not at home …

Another Twelve South product that I always carry but has been displaced with the HoverBar at home, is still an irreplaceable travel companion. (more…)

Here's why you should listen to the Most Beautiful Woman in the World.

Listen to the Most Beautiful Woman in the World

“Do you ever pay attention to what’s written on the Internet about you?”

gwyneth-paltrow-435

“Nope. I know what my intention is. People’s opinions of me who don’t know me and have never met me, that’s none of my business. That’s a projection of theirs, and it has nothing to do with me.”

Earlier, my wife put the most recent copy of People magazine on my reading table, not for me to read but just to set it down somewhere while she did something else.

Do you see the difference?

Of course, when I saw the headline that it was about the Most Beautiful Woman in the World, I had to pick it up and see, “Who?” … “Why Her?” … and, you know, see how well it aligned with my world view.
But, as I started to read the article, I was immediately drawn to Paltrow’s response to the question posed in the title of this article.

It’s none of MY business!

Do you notice anything different about her response? (more…)
